We started our hospitality business in 2015 as a vacation rental. Initially, we built two units—one to live in and one to rent out.
Encouraged by the success of the rental, we decided to expand and temporarily closed for construction. Two more units were completed in November 2017, and we reopened as a full-fledged resort.
What makes Playa del Sol so unique?
Most importantly, it is a boutique-style resort. Located 10 miles north of town, it offers a perfect blend of privacy and seclusion while still being easily accessible to shopping, restaurants, beaches, and other attractions. Additionally, we are situated between two national marine parks—Mexico Rocks and Bacalar Chico Marine Park.
Our resort also operates on a unique model. We offer each guest group complimentary snorkeling and fishing trips. These value-added experiences keep us busy year-round, rather than relying solely on the high season.
Not only is our location ideal, but the quality of our units is exceptional. Each features hurricane-rated windows and exterior doors, handmade hardwood cabinets, interior doors, mirror frames, and railings. All rooms include LED light fixtures, individual air conditioning units, and ceiling fans. The main bathrooms have double sinks, and each unit includes private storage space.

El Norte Bar & Grill—also known as the "Tiki Bar"—was rated many times as "Excellent" by TripAdvisor. It’s located on-site in front of the condominiums (without blocking ocean views). The bar serves shrimp ceviche, chicken fingers and wings, tacos, and freshly made local dishes. Our drinks are outstanding, and the service is provided by a dedicated team that has been with us for over 10 years. El Norte is also the only bar with both ocean and road access north of San Pedro Town.
Tour Center: After offering two complimentary tours as a welcome gesture, our guest groups often request additional experiences—such as spearfishing for lobster, sightseeing in Caye Caulker, open water fishing, and more. With two in-house tour guides and our own boat, these operations are both highly profitable and easy to manage.
There are also opportunities for further expansion. We have a prime spot in the center of the property, ideal for a 2 to 5 story building with ocean views. This space could house an indoor restaurant with a rooftop bar. Additionally, our southern neighbor’s land is for sale—approximately USD $400K per acre—offering even more possibilities for expansion.
