To meet the new health and safety challenges presented by Covid-19, the Belize Tourism Board (BTB) has launched its “ Tourism Gold Standard'' Certification program for hotels, resorts and tour operators to ensure a consistently high standard is being provided to visitors. We are pleased to share that Playa Del Sol is an approved Gold Standard Resort. You can trust your stay will be in the safest environment possible.

The following are some of the guidelines to help you prepare for your trip and to prepare you for what to expect during your time here.

Planning your Visit

Persons entering Belize are no longer required to download and complete the Belize Health App prior to arrival. You are required to complete the customs and immigration form that is provided to you on your flight to Belize. 

International Tourists must book a stay at a Gold Standard Hotel and present confirmation at immigration. 

On Arrival

Please be advised that as of 9 Aug 2021, the Ministry of Health and Wellness for Belize, has issued new guidance for international visitors arriving Philip S. W. Goldson International Airport.  All arrivals to the country will be required to present a negative COVID-19 test regardless of vaccination status.

Negative COVID-19 PCR TEST taken within 96 hours of travel or Negative rapid test (Rapid Antigen, Sofia, SD Biosensor, and ABBOTT (Panbio) taken within 48 hours of travel. * Children under the age of 5 are not required to present a negative COVID test; However, children 5 years and older must present a negative COVID test. *if no test is presented, a COVID-19 test will be administered at the airport. 

During Your Stay

Face masks are required throughout the Philip Goldson International Airport (BZE) and at all times when in public spaces. 

Keep your Proof of Vaccination or your COVID-19 test results readily available for Health Officials. 

Depending on your health screening, you may be randomly selected for secondary testing. If you test positive, you will be required to quarantine at a Government approved hotel. Quarantine is mandatory for a minimum of 14-days and health officials must provide clearance for you to leave the country. 

Practice social distancing, wash hands regularly or use hand sanitizer.

Use only Gold Standard certified accommodations, tour operators, tourism transportation providers (car rentals, domestic airlines, taxis), and visit Gold Standard restaurants, gift shops, and tourism sites all of whom have implemented enhanced health and safety protocols for your protection.  

Leaving Belize

The US, Canada, and several other countries now require proof of a negative COVID test for entry. To meet these new requirements, the Ministry of Health and Wellness has expanded testing to facilitate all persons departing from Belize for travel to the US and other countries. Antigen (rapid) testing is available on-site at various hotels across the country, by a Ministry of Health & Wellness approved health facility.


We care deeply about the safety of our guests, but also our dedicated employees. The Playa Del Sol team has undertaken extensive training as part of our Gold Standard certification process. 

A program manager whose responsibility will ensure that collectively we adhere to the health and safety plan
that was developed for the property.

Wellness check by taking the temperature of all employees before starting to work and guests will have their
temperature taken at check in and periodically thereafter. With temperature exceeding 37°C we will be required to report to the Ministry of Health

in order that they may provide us with instructions.

For your convenience, Playa Del Sol provides, on-site PCR (nasal swab rapid tests ) testing for our guests. The tests will be administered by medical professionals in a safe, sanitized environment. Appointments can be scheduled by the guests services team upon check-in.

All guests are responsible to cover their expenses for medical attention, transfer to and from the medical facility and if quarantine is required.

Physical distancing 6 feet apart is being enforced for employees and guests where possible. Unless you are a family traveling together you will be excused.


We also understand that our guests’ expectations for cleaning and disinfection have changed. 

Our trained team performs a full clean of the house and bathroom including cleaning air filters, vacuuming , mopping floors and wiping down all surfaces with hospital-grade cleaners. After the rooms are thoroughly cleaned, we replace the towels and make up the bed with freshly laundered linens. Then, using trusted products, we do an additional disinfecting step for high- touch surfaces in the house, including: all switches and electronic controls, handles and knobs, major bathroom surfaces and the remote controls. Finally, our housekeeping inspector verifies the house meets the standards. 

Upon your arrival, you’ll have complete peace of mind that the house is clean and disinfected and ready for your stay. 


Both public and staff areas are cleaned at scheduled intervals. The frequency of cleaning and sanitizing has been increased in all public spaces with an emphasis on frequent high- touch surfaces including; railings, public bathrooms, picnic tables, pool area, sunbeds, dining surfaces, and all seating areas. Guests will find hand sanitizer available throughout our property. Pool chairs and sunbeds are arranged to follow social distancing protocols. Sunbeds and picnic tables are sanitized between guests.


Relaxing over a meal or drink is an important part of your stay with us and ensuring that you can do so safely is our priority. You will notice some changes to our services, but we’re committed to offering the same great menus and social atmosphere you have come to expect from us.

Changes to our bar/restaurant service include the spacing of tables and bar stools to promote proper physical distancing between guests while maintaining our increased hygiene standards and protocols. 

Our staff wear appropriate PPE. They clean and sanitize tables and chairs immediately as a guest group departs and before new guests are seated.

Masks may be removed once seated, if leaving the table for any reason, guests are required to wear their masks.

High-touch points are regularly sanitized during meal services. Laminated copies of menus are thoroughly disinfected between uses.


The tour center's high touch points will be sanitized regularly. Our dive shop staff wear the required PPE. 

Kayaks and paddles are sanitized between guests.

Boat is disinfected frequently. All borrowed rods and reels, fins, masks, mouthpieces are washed, disinfected, and air-dried immediately upon your return to the premises. The Belize Tourism Board will not allow guests to share any gear unless proper sanitization of equipment is done between use.
